SA Home Owner Magazine,
March 2007.
When this young couple were looking for a place to build their first home, they chose Simbithi Eco-Estate because it had everything they required to live the lifestyle they desired – natural beauty, proximity to their places of work on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast, security, the fact that they could house their 15 month old daughter’s nanny on the premises and also that they were allowed to keep their two large dogs in the sizeable fenced garden – something most other estates don’t allow.
The atmosphere in their home is relaxed and easy, imbued with natural materials, and includes sandstone tiles and timber floors and beams, under a Chromodek roof. Furniture is comfortable and unpretentious, with family pieces such as an old piano, Queen Anne cabinet, and claw-and-ball writing bureau – all marrying well with the more contemporary furniture and blending together in a wonderful eclectic mix.
Indoor living areas flow onto a sandstone and timber deck and an interior dining. Large expanses of glass provide interrupted views over the eco-state and the home owners enjoy the fact that by living here, their daughter will grow up appreciating the abundant bird and animal life the estate offers.
“We really needed to have peace of mind – knowing our daughter was safe and well cared for while we were at work and that as she gets older, she will be able to play and walk to her friends houses without fear.” The couple enjoy the wonderful sense of community on the Estate and the fact that there are excellent leisure and sporting facilities, such as community centres, a clubhouse with a swimming pool, tennis courts an 18 hole golf course and a restaurant. An adventure playground and free open areas allow children to play, unhindered.
Although Simbithi is away from the hustle and bustle of city living, it is easily accessible via a network of existing roads – located a mere 15 minutes drive from Gateway town centre and the La Lucia Ridge office parks, and 30 minutes from Durban city centre. And , of course , the cherry on top is that its extremely close to the beautiful North Coast beaches and renowned golf courses.
